Several anti-corrosion layers/coatings of AS1163 steel pipe

AS/NZS 1163, which is the Australian/New Zealand Standard for cold-formed structural steel hollow sections, does not explicitly dictate the presence or absence of specific coatings or layers on steel pipes. The standard primarily focuses on the manufacturing, dimensions, and properties of cold-formed structural steel hollow sections, leaving the issue of protective coatings to be addressed separately.

In practical applications, steel pipes, including those meeting AS/NZS 1163 standards, may have various coatings or layers for corrosion protection and other purposes. Several anti-corrosion layers/coatings of AS1163 steel pipe:

1. Galvanization: AS1163 C250 HDG pipes, AS1163 C350 HDG pipes

Hot-dip galvanizing involves coating the steel with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion. This process is commonly used for steel pipes in outdoor or corrosive environments.
Galvanized steel pipe is widely used in sunshade system, which mainly involves supporting structure, transportation pipeline, fixed equipment and so on.

The following are its common applications and some common sizes:

Common applications:
1.1. bracing structure: galvanized steel pipe is often used to build the supporting structure of sunshade system, such as pillars, beams, and supporting frames.
Galvanized coating provides good corrosion resistance and adapts to outdoor environment.
1.2. Fixation of sunshade cloth: used for making support frame, fixing sunshade cloth or other shielding material.
It is common in tent sunshade system and garden sunshade structure.
1.3. Electric or manual shutter device: galvanized steel pipe can be used to make the supporting track and frame of the shutter to ensure the smooth operation and stability of the shutter.
1.4. Pipeline: used to transport water and other liquids for cooling or irrigation.
Avoid pipeline corrosion and ensure that the transported liquid conforms to the sanitary standard.

Common sizes:
The size of galvanized steel pipe can vary according to specific application requirements. Here are some common size ranges:
*Out Diameter: 168.3mm, 219.1mm, 273.1mm, 323.9mm, 406.4mm.
*Wall thickness: 1.6-12.7mm.
*Length: the standard length is usually 6 meters, 9 meters or 12 meters, and can also be customized as needed.

2. Painting/Coating:  AS1163 pipes for fire protection system

Steel pipes can be painted or coated with various protective materials to enhance their resistance to corrosion and environmental elements. Epoxy, polyethylene, or other specialized coatings may be applied.

Application of steel pipe in fire protection system:
Fire water transmission pipeline: the steel pipe is used as the main pipeline to transport the water source needed by the fire protection system.
These pipes are connected to water sources (such as water tanks, pumps) to supply the fire protection system.
Sprinkler system piping: steel pipes are used to build a network of sprinkler systems to deliver water to automatic or manual sprinkler heads to extinguish or control fires.
Fire hydrant pipe: the steel pipe is used to build a fire hydrant system connected to the main water source.
These pipes can be installed on all floors of the building to provide additional water for the fire brigade.
Water pump connection pipe: the steel pipe is used to connect the fire pump system to ensure that the water can be effectively transported to the place where it is needed.
Fire water tank piping: steel pipes are used to build piping systems connected to fire water tanks to store additional water in case of emergency.
Pipe valves and fittings: steel pipes and associated valves and fittings are used to build reliable fire piping systems that quickly turn on or off water flow and control the flow of water as needed.

3. Bitumen Coating:

Bitumen coatings are often used for underground pipelines to protect against soil corrosion.

4. 3LPE/3LPP Coating:

Three-layer polyethylene (3LPE) and three-layer polypropylene (3LPP) coatings provide a combination of mechanical protection, chemical resistance, and insulation.

5. FBE Coating:

Fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) coating is applied to steel pipes to provide corrosion resistance and improve durability.

6. Internal Linings:

For pipes carrying specific fluids, internal linings may be applied to protect against corrosion or erosion caused by the transported material.

It’s essential to consider the intended use, environmental conditions, and the specific requirements of the project when selecting the appropriate coating for AS/NZS 1163 steel pipes. Additionally, project specifications, industry standards, and coating manufacturer recommendations should be followed to ensure proper application and performance of protective layers.
